Spruce Grove Public Library (SGPL) is a proud member of the Yellowhead Regional Library as well as part of a large group of public libraries across Alberta called TRAC. TRAC is made up of four different regional library systems (Yellowhead, Marigold, Peace, and Northern Lights) that work together so that 150+ libraries across the province can share resources and technology.
What does this mean for you as a patron?
If we don't have the item that you're looking for we can request it from one of these 150+ libraries. If you're traveling or live close to two or three different libraries you can also use your SGPL library card to visit any of those TRAC libraries to browse and borrow items at your leisure. This is perfect for people who work and live in different communities or frequently visit family and friends across Alberta.

Are you having trouble finding a specific book or item in our collections?
Sometimes we aren't able to find every item that you're looking for in one of the TRAC libraries that we regularly share items with. In this case we can request that the item be sent to SGPL for you to borrow through The Alberta Library (TAL). To make a request you can visit our Information Services desk for staff assistance or you can visit www.talonline.ca to make the request yourself.
Requesting a title from TAL? A few things to note:
All items requested are loaned at the discretion of the owning library (meaning that they can say no to the request).
Some libraries will not loan audio-visual materials outside of their own library system.
Public libraries are usually willing to fill requests unless the item is very new, popular, or there are many requests on the item from their own patrons.
Academic libraries sometimes will not fill requests if the item is relevant to current curriculum, a professor or student has requested the item, the item is currently seeing heavy use by students, the item is in a special/reserve/rare collection, or if school is currently in session (loans are more likely to be granted in the summer).
Academic libraries also reserve the right to recall items they have loaned at any time and the items must be returned- regardless of the original loan period. This is usually done when a professor has requested the item.
Renewals on out-of-system loans cannot always be granted. If you would like a renewal, let one of our Information Services staff know and they will follow up with the owning library.
It is recommended that out-of-system loans should be returned to the library through which you originally placed the hold.
There is $5.00 fee on article requests from NEOS libraries. The amount may vary among other academic institutions.
Shipping charges are a possibility if a requested item is being shipped from outside of Alberta. These costs are recovered from the patron who made the request.
