Needs Assessment

Did you know #sglibrary is #outofspace?

Spruce Grove Public Library is out of space!   Busting at the seams.  Your community’s living room is full to the brim.

What does this mean?  Other than the frustration of trying to find a parking spot on any given night of the week, we are:

·      #outofspace for programs for our young readers–kids from birth to age 6 who need to acquire reading, social and school readiness skills;

  • #outofspace for our collection of books, DVDs, CDs, bibliotherapy kits, resources, information, and much more;
  • #outofspace in our innovation lab, where people of all ages come to create and share their ideas;
  • #outofspace for our community.

The result: there are line-ups for service, waiting lists for programs, crowded stacks, and no room for quiet study.

In order to serve our community best, we are embarking on a needs assessment journey with a plan for the future that best serves our community. It will pave the way forward for short and long-term planning: budgeting, fundraising and expanded library services.

The City of Spruce Grove has grown tremendously, and so has the demand for library service.  We’re a young community that wants and deserves quality library programs and services.

We’re looking to the future.  What are the needs and desires of our community?  What are the trends and how can we best meet them? We need to ensure we get the space that fits the future.
