Alberta Securities Commission Sessions | Session 1: Starting your investment journey Investing can be part of a healthy financial future, providing you with greater personal freedom, a sense of security and the ability to afford the things you want in life. Join us as we explore the benefits of starting your investment journey and how to avoid common investing mistakes and fraud. Session 2: Investing in Cryptocurrencies Cryptocurrencies have grown in popularity in the news, online and even in our social circles. Join us as we walk through what cryptocurrencies are, what they do and the major considerations and risks you should understand before investing. Session 3: Recognizing and avoiding investment scams Investing comes with inherent risks, but don’t let fraud be one of them. Join us as we uncover the prominent forms of investment fraud, how to recognize them and ultimately protect yourself and others. Session 4: DIY Investing: Understanding the fundamentals of investing on your own Self-directed investing is becoming increasingly popular with new and long-time investors. Join us as we walk through assessing if this investing approach is right for you and the fundamentals to opening a trading account, researching and trading investments and avoiding common DIY investing mistakes Provided in partnership with Alberta Securities Commission (ASC), the regulatory agency responsible for administering the province's securities laws. Earth Day | Plant Exchange Have houseplants that no longer bring joy to your life? Come to the library to exchange your plant with the community. You must leave a "healthy" plant to take a plant. Also accepting cuttings that are labeled and rooted in water. This is a drop-in program. Watch, Snack and Craft Enjoy the movie WALL-E and create an earth friendly craft. Empower Me | Empower Me® is Canada’s only energy conservation and education change program designed for and delivered by members of diverse, multilingual, and hard to reach communities. Empower Me delivers free programming and education in an appropriate way to bridge the gap of other programs. Empower Me Workshop includes: Energy Savings Workshop-A fresh take on our energy savings workshop. Emphasis on where your energy comes from and your home uses energy. What steps homeowners can take to save energy and money and a detailed look at your energy bills and what you’re paying for Being Safe At Home-Teaching homeowners how to be safe at home, including smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and what to do in case of a gas leak, as well as emergency preparedness. We also offer our top 6 energy saving tips and information on recycling and composting Greener Homes 101-A half hour, step by step guide on how to apply and be eligible for the Federal Grant program that offers up to $5,600 for energy efficient upgrades in your home. |

Gardening Presentations | Gardening 101 Learn the basics! This class covers basic gardening concepts such as propagation techniques: seed starting, divisions, & cutting. As well as, garden planning, planting and harvesting. This is the perfect class to get some tips for getting your plants to flourish in any area of your yard or container. Seed Saving Learn how to save your seeds from year to year! Topics covered will include the easiest seeds to save, when and how to harvest seeds and helpful tips for drying and storing your seeds. Haiku Competition | Join us as we celebrate National Poetry Month! We invite you to write and share a haiku about libraries, books or reading. Everyone who submits a haiku will be entered to win an Indigo gift card, within their age category. Visit our typewriting station at the library to submit your poem in person or email us at programming@yrl.ab.ca by Sunday April 30, 2023. Haikus have 3 lines and 17 syllables. You can follow a 5-7-5 pattern or go more freestyle with your 17 syllables. Have fun! |

Murder Mystery Party | You have received an invitation to a raven party at the Poe Mansion in the gloomy crime-ridden city of Wraith’s Cove. The town gossips are chattering about the disreputable people on Eddie Poe’s guest list. What could Eddie be thinking? Could it be that Eddie has finally gone mad? It appears that at least the Poe Mansion’s in dire need of assistance. Ever since Eddie’s housekeeper quit, the estate is in shambles. Nevertheless, you are intrigued by the thought of a Gothic dinner party held in honor of a fiendish bird – even if the group of ruffians may cause chaos. Chaos can be fun sometimes, right? This is where your story begins. |
