Many of our programs and events are drop-in such as storytimes. These programs are flexible and great for busy individuals and families that may be less able to plan ahead. However, some programs are registered as they may have limited space for participants or require supplies for each participant. Knowing how many people will attend a program in advance allows us to plan more effectively and make better use of library funds with less wastage.

Head on over to the full calendar, select the program you would like to register for. If there are spots available for this program you can fill in the brief webform and register right away!If a program is full you can add participants to the waitlist. We recommend that you use the waitlist as often we get cancellations and waitlist people will automatically be given any spots in a program that open up.

We have four programming seasons throughout the year:Fall (September-December)Winter (January-March)Spring (April-June)Summer (July-August)Registration will usually open up the month before a programming season begins. We have found that if we open it up any earlier people register and forget what they signed up for.We will share the specific dates on our social media platforms beforehand.

We recommend that you use the program waitlist as often we get cancellations and waitlist people will automatically be given any spots in a program that open up.If a spot does become available those on the waitlist will be contacted by email to let them know that they are now registered for the program.

Program age recommendations are simply a guideline for content. Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of age or ability! However, do keep in mind that a program may not be appropriate for a younger audience as it was created for a particular development stage and maturity level. If an activity is too complex or challenging participants may become frustrated and not fully engage in the program. We only have a limited number of staff and are unable to provide 1:1 assistance to each participant during programs. If you still would like your child to participate or have any questions about a program, please contact the Programming Team at asgprogramming@yrl.ab.ca or call us at 780-962-4423 ext. 0.

We strive to host inclusive, accessible programs, events and meeting spaces that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. To be respectful of those with allergies and environmental sensitivities, we ask that you please refrain from wearing strong fragrances. To request an accommodation or have any questions about accessibility, please contact the Programming Team at asgprogramming@yrl.ab.ca or call us at 780-962-4423 ext. 0. Plans change and that is ok.If you need to cancel you can click the link in your confirmation email (check the junk folder if you don't see it in your inbox) to adjust your booking. Can't find the email? Please contact the Programming Team at asgprogramming@yrl.ab.ca or call us at 780-962-4423 ext. 0.Let us know if you can't make it to a program you registered for as soon as possible. Walk-ins are welcome if space allows for registered programs (i.e. no-shows).

Children under the age of twelve must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver in the library. Children left unaccompanied in the library in violation of the policy may necessitate a referral to Children Services or other authorities. This includes during programs (exception: a waiver has been signed for a specific program). Caregivers must remain on the library premises for the program duration.Children twelve and older may be unaccompanied provided they observe proper conduct. Such children are subject to the same rules of conduct as other patrons and to the same consequences, including being asked to leave the library if warranted.Children of any age who require special supervision must be accompanied by a parent or responsible caregiver at all times.Parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for deciding what library programs and resources are appropriate for their children. Access to library resources is not limited to "age appropriate" material, and includes print, audiovisual and unfiltered internet access. The library's staff is not in a position to provide this monitoring and supervision or to serve in loco parentis.

Let us know if you can't make it to a program you registered for as soon as possible. Many of our programs have a limited capacity and we do have others on the waitlist.Programs cancellations must be notified minimum 24 hours prior to the event. If patrons cancel at short notice this doesn't allow time for those on the waitlist to have the opportunity to attend programs. If patrons continually do not show for programs they have registered for (and have not contacted the library) we may block you from registering for future programs and/or move your registration to the waitlist. If you need to cancel you can click the link in your confirmation email (check the junk folder if you don't see it in your inbox) to adjust your booking. Can't find the email? Please contact the Programming Team at asgprogramming@yrl.ab.ca or call us at 780-962-4423 ext. 0.

The library recognizes the need, at times, to have specially-trained animals that assist persons with disabilities. To balance customer needs with health and safety concerns, only service animals may visit the library. Service animals are animals that are individually trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities - such as guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling wheelchairs, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, or performing other special tasks. Service animals are working animals, not "pets," and include therapy animals (e.g. therapy dogs). If a patron wishes to bring in their Emotional Support Animal (ESA) to be able to use the library facility, they must notify a staff member and must provide documentation from their health care provider outlining the need for the ESA. Service animals must be either leashed or contained in some manner (i.e., cage, carrier etc.). Animals will not be permitted to roam freely through the library. Animals must remain fully under their handler’s control at all times, are not to approach other patrons in the library, and shall not unreasonably interfere with the health and safety of other library users.

If you are a local author (Edmonton area) interested in collaborating on an event please send us a complete media package with your request to asgprogramming@yrl.ab.ca. If we identify one of our programs that would be suitable and have capacity to accommodate a reading, we may contact you to follow up.If you would like to suggest the library purchase your book, please fill in the "Suggest an Item" form. While we do not organize book launches, we do have rooms available for rent should you want to host one here at the library. Strategic Plan of Service 2024-2026

Introduction

The Spruce Grove Public Library’s 2024-2026 Strategic Plan of Service provides a roadmap that was developed by Board members and senior staff members. It is important that both Board and senior staff work together to achieve the priorities that are outlined in this plan.

Also important is the recognition that the external environment in which the library operates may shift. In response, this Strategic Plan of Service also may have to shift to remain relevant. As with any plan, regular reviews and updates will be important.

The SGPL Strategic Plan of Service provides intentional direction that advances the library’s vision, mission, and values; it is a roadmap that guides development and delivery of accessible programs, services, and resources while practicing and promoting adaptability in an ever-changing environment.Vision          Curiosity, connections, learning, and belonging in a shared spaceMission        Create welcoming placesValuesValueWhat it MeansBelongingJudgement-free use of programs, services and resources that provide and support a welcoming place for all.AccessibilityBarrier-free access to programs, services, and resources that practice and promote intellectual freedom for allCuriosityUnlimited encouragement to explore and discover what’s new, forgotten, and familiar to youDiversity, Equity, and InclusionUnlimited opportunities to encounter and experience what is meaningful, enriching and representative of youInnovationLimitless commitment to and consideration of providing responsive and creative delivery of programs, services, and resources to the community.  LeadershipPurposeful connections made and respectful actions taken for the betterment of the community. The Spruce Grove Public Library (SGPL) is dedicated to organizational excellence, and the SGPL Board is proud of the incredible diversity and depth of expertise among our staff. It is through their hard work and commitment to the community—each and every day— that the library has provided a welcoming place that practices and promotes inclusion and encourages life-long learning for the past 5 years.Looking to the future, we continue to strive for organization-wide improvements that directly benefit all who visit and use SGPL, including those who work and volunteer there. In addition to transparent governance and fiscal accountability, strategic planning is essential to ensure the library’s ongoing success.Early in 2023, City of Spruce Grove Library Board Trustees met to identify service priorities and develop a new 3-year plan for Spruce Grove Public Library (SGPL). Library boards in Alberta are responsible for creating this plan which is based on an assessment of community needs. In order to grow and change with our community, we need to understand where we are now and how best to identify what may lie ahead. In the 2024-2026 SGPL Strategic Plan of Service (SPoS), the SGPL Board has identified progressive and responsive pillars, goals, and tactics for the library’s ever-changing environment; pillars (areas of focused attention) support goals (desired changes over time) that are accomplished by tactics (specific activities related to pillars and goals) and measured by outcomes (key indicators and statistical data).Consequently, the SPoS that follows provides clear direction for consistent achievement of excellent library experiences for our growing and diverse population of community members and visitors. Whether they are simply seeking a welcoming place to gather or accessing programs, services, and resources, the SGPL Director and team will be equipped and ready to respond to their needs. We acknowledge that there will be instances when this plan needs to change due to unforeseen circumstances, and we will adapt along the way. Now, however, the SPoS is our best expression of how SGPL can best serve the community in the years to come.  Sincerely,Adam McArthur, ChairCity of Spruce Grove Library BoardDemands on, and expectations of, SGPL are continuously increasing and evolving; long gone are the days when libraries served only as quiet repositories of books. Rather, SGPL is now a vibrant community space where all people are invited to connect, learn, and play without experiencing judgement or overcoming other barriers.Based on what we heard during the plan building process, everything in this Strategic Plan of Service can be traced back to meeting the needs of the community that were identified through several surveys, consultation, and ideas generated by the members of the library board. The overall consultation generated ideas from the community, and since the library board is charged with identifying the best path forward, some of the ideas that were generated are outlined in this plan, while other ideas are not included. Making this difficult choice is a role that is a key aspect of a governance board like a library board. This plan sets out the long-term activity for SGPL. Below the level of this plan, library management is expected to identify how to achieve these goals and tactics, and to measure progress through the use of key performance indicators. The library board also acknowledges that this Strategic Plan of Service is about change over time, and as such, there is a great deal of activity that occurs at an operational level in the library. That ongoing work is not part of any strategic plan, but more properly belongs in the library’s business plan or operational plan.Priorities that put the strategy into this Strategic Plan of Service Pillar:  Key area of focus – the “why”Goal:  Accomplishment – the “what”Tactic: Activity – the “how”Measure:  Outcome (the “how much”) Pillar 1 Provide and Sustain Collections, Programs, and Services that Respond to   Community NeedGoal:  Excellent collection, program, and service experienced by all. Pillar 2 Identify and Improve Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Everything We DoGoal: Trusted opportunities, connections, and relationships with all. Pillar 3 Prepare for and Respond to Future Environmental and Infrastructure NeedsGoal:  Recognition as an influencer, accessibility advocate, and sustainability champion. Pillar 4 Establish and Ensure Effective Governance that Encourages Organizational ExcellenceGoal:  Recognition as a key community stakeholder and collaborative recipient of provincial and municipal funding
