Second Overdue Notice – Items 3 weeks past due will receive a second overdue notice. These automated messages are sent via phone, email, or text.

Billing Notice – Items 6 weeks past due will be considered lost and automatically billed to your account. These automatic messages are sent via phone, email, or text.

Fine Notice – If your account balance is $10.00 or more, you will receive a fine notice and your account will become blocked. These automated messages are sent via mail, email, or text.

Billing Process

Account information may be disclosed to parents/guardians if a minors’ account is in arrears.

Stage 1

Invoice Letter – An invoice with the replacement cost will be sent for items still not returned 30 days after a billing notice or for accounts with a balance of $20.00 or more. Items returned will be fined applicable overdue fees. These letters are sent by mail or email by a library staff member.

Stage 2

Final Notice – A final notice will be sent for items not returned 60 days after a billing notice or for accounts with a balance of $20.00 or more. Items returned within a reasonable amount of time following the final notice will be fined the maximum overdue fee of $10.00 or the cost of the item; whichever is less. These letters are sent by mail or email by a library staff member.

Stage 3

Collection Agency – Accounts in arrears for more than 60 days with a balance of $20.00 may be sent to the library’s preferred collection agency. The library can no longer negotiate the account.

Previously paid replacement costs for lost items will not be refunded if the item is returned. Once an item has been paid for, it is no longer considered property of SGPL.
