The library recognizes the need, at times, to have specially-trained animals that assist persons with disabilities. To balance customer needs with health and safety concerns, only service animals may visit the library.

Service animals are animals that are individually trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities - such as guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling wheelchairs, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, or performing other special tasks. Service animals are working animals, not "pets," and include therapy animals (e.g. therapy dogs). If a patron wishes to bring in their Emotional Support Animal (ESA) to be able to use the library facility, they must notify a staff member and must provide documentation from their health care provider outlining the need for the ESA.

Service animals must be either leashed or contained in some manner (i.e., cage, carrier etc.). Animals will not be permitted to roam freely through the library. Animals must remain fully under their handler’s control at all times, are not to approach other patrons in the library, and shall not unreasonably interfere with the health and safety of other library users.

If you are a local author (Edmonton area) interested in collaborating on an event please send us a complete media package with your request to If we identify one of our programs that would be suitable and have capacity to accommodate a reading, we may contact you to follow up.

If you would like to suggest the library purchase your book, please fill in the "Suggest an Item" form.

While we do not organize book launches, we do have rooms available for rent should you want to host one here at the library. Please refer to our information on room bookings for options and availability. If you require further support please contact our partners at the Writers' Guild of Alberta.
